Terrific Family Resources
Resources Worth a Look!:
This website is associated with the Parenting Magazine, and it contains some good information on the various stages of development for children, parenting tips, parent blogs, etc.
This website is a wonderful resource for easy, practical books, DVD’s, and CD’s about raising responsible children while maintaining your own sanity! For starters, I really like the books Parenting with Love & Logic (great overview of their philosophy and techniques for all ages) and Parenting Teens with Love & Logic (great overview too, but geared toward older children).
This website is a terrific place to find articles about handling difficult behavior in children of all ages. Of course, there are products available, but even if you don’t buy the products, the free newsletter is great…and so is the library of articles available. I do own the Total Transformation Program that is sold on this site, and would be happy to discuss it with you before you buy it.
This is a wonderful place to find great books for parents, teachers, and kids of all ages. This site is a must visit if you want to inspire the next generation! Some of the topics covered in the books and CD’s found here are: character development, gifted learners, learning difficulties, manners, anger management, bullying, homework skills, stress management, suicide, teens social issues, family meetings…the list goes on and on! I have personally ordered many items from this site, and I have never been disappointed. I am more than happy to help with recommendations.
This site is great even if you don’t home school your children. Each week they have interesting articles, and they feature great websites that are fun and educational for families. Definitely worth a look.
This is a site to check out if you get tired of cooking the same old thing…or you hate menu planning. They do charge a small fee for their services, but it’s well worth it if it reduces your stress and helps the family get back to the dinner table! In addition, if you shop with a list (and try to stick to it, you just might lower your grocery bill enough to pay for the service!)
This is the website for Family Fun Magazine, which I really like, but I find that the website has so much information that you can probably skip the magazine subscription and still get lots of great ideas for family activities, kids’ parties, holidays, food, etc. Don’t worry, Martha Stewart had nothing to do with the projects featured here…you can actually do these things!
www.capabilitiesinc.com
www.empoweringpeople.com
These two wonderful sites are grouped together because they overlap significantly when it comes to content of material and philosophy behind the message. They both contain terrific products for parents, and the main educators on both sites have collaborated on numerous books, etc. I personally own many of the items from both websites, and have used them as resources when I worked with families in drug treatment, and also when I first became a parent. I love to listen and watch as H. Stephen Glenn talks about positive parenting, and I think the DVD’s and CD’s are a great investment. If you would like to contact me to discuss these products before you purchase them, I would be happy to share any thoughts and insights about these products relevant to your personal situation. Enjoy!
